The Qushla

The Qushla (Arabic: القشلة) is a significant Baghdadi heritage landmark and Ottoman military site, built in the second half of the 19th century under Midhat Pasha. Located at the end of al-Mutanabbi Street by the Tigris River, it was originally an army building for the Ottoman Empire. Its notable 22-meter clock tower was constructed to wake up soldiers for training. 

Shabandar Café

Baghdad's Intellectual Soul, established in 1917, is one of Baghdad's oldest and most famous coffeehouses. Located on al-Mutanabbi Street, it is a vital cultural and intellectual hub where poets, writers, and politicians gather to discuss art and politics. Its walls are lined with historic photos chronicling Iraq’s past. Banning games to promote dialogue, it remains a symbol of Baghdadi heritage and resilience.

Souk Al-Sarai

Once known for leather goods, it is now famous for trading school supplies, stationery, and books, though it still retains traditional items and crafts. The souk is situated near the Al-Sarai Mosque, which was built around the same time as the market. 

The Al-Mutanabbi Statue

This iconic bronze sculpture, created by Mohammad Ghani Hikmat in the 1970s, honors the great 10th-century Arab poet, Abu al-Tayyib al-Mutanabbi. The majestic figure stands at the end of Al-Mutanabbi Street, Baghdad’s historic book market, overlooking the Tigris River. It symbolizes Baghdad's deep literary heritage and remains a key gathering spot for the city's intellectuals and artists.
